The final retreat in Bakri (The Battle of Muar 1942), Bakri
Most people who are interested in the Malayan Campaign would have seen a photo of three (3) Australian soldiers aiming its anti-tank gun on Japanese tanks in Bakri (Photo taken from Australia War Memorial (AWM 068592)). The Gunners were from the 4th Anti-Tank Regiment who fired 2 -pounder anti-tank guns in Bakri in January 1942. The effective range of the guns were about 500 metres but in the battle at Bakri, the Japanese tanks were only 100 metres away. This was the site where the final battle took place before the Allied soldiers retreated to Singapore.
