Cenotaph War Memorial, Ipoh

The Cenotaph built in 1927 is located opposite the Ipoh Railway Station at the Ipoh Heritage Square, Jalan Dato’ Panglima Bukit Gantang Wahab, Ipoh. The Cenotaph serves as a memorial to those who had died in the World War I (1914 -1918), the World War II (1939-1945), the Emergency (1948-1960) and Indonesia-Malaysia Confrontation in (1962-1966), and the thousands of war prisoners and civilians who perished at the Thailand-Burma Death Railway between 1943 and 1945. Each year in June, the veterans from Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom who were part of the Commonwealth Forces that defended Malaya from the First World War till the Indonesian Confrontation would gather at the Cenotaph to remember those who had fallen.
